Urban forest structure across Calgary communities

Relative mapped tree canopy, public-tree density, recorded public-tree species breadth and average recorded trunk diameter across official Calgary community boundaries.

This page compares one public-data signal at a time. It is a shortlist tool rather than an overall ranking, and every leading record links to a full community profile with the underlying evidence and local context.

Published formula

2024 mapped canopy 45%, public-tree density 30%, recorded public-tree species breadth 15%, average recorded diameter at breast height 10%.

The canopy layer includes visible public and private tree cover, while the tree inventory covers City-maintained public trees only. Species breadth and average trunk diameter are inventory fields, not biodiversity, health, shade, maintenance, private-tree, streetscape-quality or property-level measures.

Evidence used

This is a direct comparison. The current ingredients include 2024 Tree Canopy Raw Data, official community boundaries, Public Trees inventory, public-tree count and density, recorded public-tree species breadth, average recorded diameter at breast height.
