Housing and change community signal

Housing choice across Calgary communities

Relative breadth of occupied dwelling forms, mapped residential land-use categories, recent permitted housing forms and approved secondary-suite registry presence. This lets newer communities participate without treating planned capacity as completed homes.

This page compares one public-data signal at a time. It is a shortlist tool rather than an overall ranking, and every leading record links to a full community profile with the underlying evidence and local context.

Published formula

Occupied dwelling-type diversity 28%, represented occupied dwelling forms 9%, tenure balance 5%, mapped residential land-use diversity 18%, mapped residential density breadth 13%, recent residential permit-form diversity 10%, recent permit-form breadth 7%, registered secondary suites per 1,000 residential assessment parcels 10%.

City-profile shares describe occupied housing in 2021; land-use designations describe mapped capacity; permits describe recorded activity. Registry rows identify approved suites, not available rentals, occupancy, asking rent, condition or every suite. The signal does not establish affordability, accessibility, ownership cost or current listings.

Evidence used

This is a interpretive blend. The current ingredients include 2021 dwelling-type shares, 2021 tenure shares, City land-use district polygons, building permits since 2024 by residential class, City Secondary Suite Registry.
